I want to send solidarity to striking workers at MOD Beith. A further two weeks continuous strike is to commence on Monday 21st August against unequal bonus schemes which have created a two tier workforce. I have written to the Defence Secretary to demand that the MOD get around the table to resolve this dispute.
Millport Surgery
I am looking forward to holding a surgery at Millport on 24 August. Details below if you want to drop in.
Greenock Prison
Greenock Prison has multiple cells uninhabitable and working conditions described by inspectors as “almost impossible”. I’ve written to the Scottish Government to make clear a replacement can’t wait if we’re to ensure staff and prisoners are safe.
Letter to First Bus
The removal of Glasgow’s night bus services is unacceptable and will cause economic carnage. I’ve written to First Group. But the Scottish Government must provide leadership and funding to bring buses under public ownership and control.
Ardrossan Surgery
I am looking forward to holding a surgery at my constituency office in Ardrossan on Tuesday 8th August. If you need help or advice with any issue or concern, please get in contact to book a space.
My Debate on Women Prisoners
It was a privilege to speak to my motion on women prisoners this week. There was much cross-party agreement that too many women are remanded in custody for non-violent offences. Investment is needed to refocus our justice system so more alternatives to custody are available.
Fire Appliances
Despite the Scottish Government’s denial, the fact is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service budget faces real terms cuts this year and is withdrawing vital appliances from a number of stations. Let’s be clear: these cuts are risking lives.
Let’s Save our Buses
Bus services are in crisis and lifeline routes are being cut. I’m calling on the Scottish Government to commit to: ∙ No more blank cheques for private operators∙ Cap fares to encourage use∙ Ensure funding and regulations are in place to bring services under local control
Fire Estate Cuts
Nearly half of all fire stations in Scotland are in poor condition, a third lack dedicated showers and four have no running water. FBU Scotland have set out how this puts firefighters at real risk. Funding to modernise the estate is urgently needed.
Kilwinning Surgery
I am looking forward to holding a surgery at 1st Alliance Credit Union in Kilwinning on Friday 23 June. If you need help or advice with any issue or concern, please drop in.
