The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is consulting on potentially closing fire stations. Around half the estate is in poor condition with firefighters often unable to decontaminate. Ministers must listen to Fire Brigades Union Scotland and come forward with an emergency support package.
VisitScotland’s decision to close all tourist information centres is deeply concerning. Help can’t simply be replicated online.The centres provide specialist local knowledge, helping tourists and supporting local attractions. 📧My letter to the Scottish Government:
Congratulations to the Ferguson shipyard workforce on the launch of the MV Glen Rosa this afternoon who have worked tirelessly, overcoming serious hurdles to reach this point. There remain significant challenges for the yard. We need to fight for its long term future.
I’m pleased that the Housing Bill is finally published. Living Rent and other campaigners have fought tirelessly for permanent rent controls. We are in a housing emergency and need stronger interim support for tenants until the rent controls scheme is in place.
Child poverty has not reduced. I asked what work the Scottish Government is doing to tackle child poverty. I welcome the Scottish Child Payment, but support must be better targeted. Childcare must also be properly funded, and the Scottish Government must reverse its cuts to housing & councils.
I was pleased to join the #RallyForEducation with NUS Cotland. Students are rightly outraged that over £100 million is being cut from the budget for higher and further education. These cuts will impact both students and staff. They must be reversed.
