It’s deeply concerning that there has been a 60% rise in violent incidents in North Ayrshire schools since 2022.

This reflects a national trend with violence in Scotland’s schools having doubled since 2021 under the SNP.  There has been an over 180% increase in secondary schools and a 113% rise in primary schools.

Despite repeated warnings from teachers, education trade unions, parents and pupils, the SNP have failed to act to tackle violence, sexism, and misogyny in schools.

Over the last five years as a West Scotland MSP, I urged SNP Ministers to act by delivering a cross-campus strategy to tackle violence, sexism, and misogyny across our education system.  If re-elected, I will continue to fight for such a strategy to be developed and delivered as a key priority in the next session of the Scottish Parliament.
