I have submitted a motion in the Scottish Parliament calling on the Scottish Government to act on the scourge of precarious contracts in higher and further education. Workers frequently express that they feel vulnerable and want permanent contracts, yet use of these contracts is rampant in Scotland.

The Scottish Funding Council must put guidelines in place to outline that they should not be used. That means ministers must be proactive and work with councils, unions and education institutions to drive up standards in the sector once and for all.
