A new survey by Citizens Advice Scotland has found that 36% of all Scots can’t afford fuel bills. This is unsurprising: bills have risen following the record increase of the energy price cap and the Tories’ callous cut to universal credit. These inflated prices have only exacerbated existing issues for the hundreds of thousands of households living in fuel poverty in Scotland.

I believe we urgently need targeted interventions from the Scottish Government to combat this, starting with a £70 winter fuel supplement that will benefit low-income pensioners and struggling families across Scotland. We have a moral responsibility to lift Scots out of poverty. No one should be forced between heating and eating this Winter.

I would also encourage anyone struggling to contact their local citizens advice bureau or call Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282
