Amazon workers from 20 countries are marking Black Friday by staging protests and strikes. They are demanding Amazon pay the living wage, recognise trade unions, commit to meaningful environmental action and pay their taxes. The Make Amazon Pay campaign is all about redressing the balance after years of exploitation.
This is a company which made record sales income last year, and yet paid zero corporation tax in Europe, has been criticised by human rights organisations for its working practices and has been accused by former employees of destroying millions of items of unsold stock.
Despite this, the Scottish Government has repeatedly handed public contracts to the multinational. This has to stop. I am backing the campaign to Make Amazon Pay and have called on politicians of all stripes to join me.
